Cloud Power

Move to the cloud on your own terms

You’ve probably been hearing about cloud computing. Everybody’s talking about it these days. But when you get beyond the hype, most cloud solutions offer little more than an alternate place to store your data.

At Decision Consultants, Inc. we can show you how it can be much more.

Whether you have made the decision to move to the cloud, or are still exploring the value of online solutions to your business, now more than ever you need to be strategic in how you approach your transition to Cloud Computing. By providing strategic guidance, technical implementation, and proactive support, Decision Consultants’ Microsoft Services delivers the broadest capabilities and options to help you breathe life into your Cloud solutions.

Rather than just moving your current IT environment to the cloud, DCI’s Microsoft based cloud solutions are about creating new technology options that help drive your business forward. We believe Microsoft offers the most comprehensive set of cloud services on Earth. Products like Microsoft Office 365, Windows AzureTM, and Windows Server® 2008 R2 Hyper-VTM give you the flexibility and control to use them exactly the way you want to.

What is it that constitutes Cloud Computing? Two things.

1.     Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) is a model for provisioning hardware (compute, storage, networking, etc…) to the end user where the management of the underlying fabric is controlled by the provider, but the end user maintains control of the operating system and applications that are installed within it.

2.     Software as a Service (SaaS) is a model where Microsoft applications (for example, MS Office, Exchange, SQL Forefront, etc.) are provided, often times with IaaS and customers pay on a per-user/per month basis.

Infrastructure as a Service

Infrastructure as a Service is an evolution in the way business will consume IT. There are a number of ways that IaaS from Decision Consultants is helping its clients improve on the way infrastructure is provisioned today.

  • Utilization – Today’s infrastructure must be designed for the worst case scenario of high demand. The end result is the low utilization of servers. With IaaS, utilization increases to take better advantage of the investment in hardware.
  • Server/User Ratio – In today’s infrastructure each IT administrator can manage fewer servers due to the lack of automation and other advances. With IaaS and its advances each IT administrator can manage more servers.
  • Deployment Scale – Today infrastructure must be designed for peak scale only. With IaaS the infrastructure capacity can grow and shirk dynamically based on the client’s demand.
  • Physical vs. Virtual – Today’s infrastructure is mostly physical. IaaS uses more virtualization to increase utilization, increase efficiency and lower cost.
  • Path to the Future – Today’s infrastructure make the transition to the public cloud difficult. By employing IaaS the path is clearer, easier and less expensive.

In the end, it’s all about efficiency and effectiveness. Efficiency comes from lowering the cost of IT. Efficiency comes from improving the ROI of you IT investments.

The Private Cloud

When DCI’s clients migrate to the private cloud, they recognize important, bottom line, benefits. These include:

  • Reduced Costs: The ongoing IT operational costs and capital investment costs (servers, datacenter equipment) for Decision Consultants clients are reduced because cloud technology is paid incrementally, saving organization money.
  •  Agility: DCI’s clients no longer have to worry about constant server upgrades and updates and other computing issues. They free themselves to concentrate on their individual core competencies.
  • Increased Efficiency: No longer do the IT personnel of DCI’s clients need to worry about keeping software up to date. It’s all done as part of the monthly per user fee.
  • Scalable and Elastic – a DCI client that is using the power of the cloud can enable the faster delivery of capacity when resource needs change.

Private Cloud vs. Highly Virtualized Computing

Now, what is the difference between highly virtualized computing and a private cloud?

Highly virtualized computing gives you the benefits of increased utilization of your servers, power savings, and reduced server footprint. We are familiar with these as they are in datacenters today. However, this does not equal to the private cloud.

A Private cloud provides all of those benefits plus highly integrated and automated management, scalable and elastic platforms, and self service.

  • Mange Costs: The ongoing IT operational costs and capital investment costs (servers, datacenter equipment) are reduced because cloud technology is paid incrementally thereby saving the organization money.
  • Business Agility: One no longer has to worry about constant server updates and other computing issues. Your organization will be free to concentrate on its individual core competencies.
  • Improved Control: No longer do IT personnel need to worry about keeping software up to date.

How Decision Consultants Clients Benefit from Cloud Computing

There are three main areas where DCI’s clients see the most value compared to their existing (traditional) environment or competitive options.

Agility:

Transforming IT to make it much more dynamic, being able to both accelerate the speed of service, as well as giving the flexibility and responsiveness that a solution truly needs to be able to meet business needs.

  • Rapid Deployment
  • Scale Dynamically
  • In Production Patching (no downtime)
  • Improved reliability

Manage Costs:

Simplifying your infrastructure, becoming more transparent and changing the way you can utilize resources

  • Resource Pooling
  • Better Utilization
  • Resourced to specific business need

Improved Control:

Reducing administration costs and increasing the level of service through automation and centralized management.

  • Automated patching
  • Automatic Failover
  • Central Console
